IOWA CORN FARMERS NEED NEW DEMAND NOW. Iowa corn farmers are growing record-breaking yields that have created a massive surplus. Iowa Corn knew this was coming and has been working to create demand. But the time is NOW! Without new markets to absorb this supply, corn prices will continue to decline, the number of family farmers will shrink, and the backbone of our rural economy will face an avoidable decline. Simply put: Without new demand, the best days for corn growers are behind us. The Immediate Solution: Nationwide E15 Iowa’s corn farmers need an immediate market for their corn, and that solution is year-round, nationwide E15. The passage of nationwide E15 is the most effective near-term solution to stabilize the market. In Iowa, we experience the benefits of E15. It’s cheaper at the pump, cleaner burning and benefits Iowa’s corn farmers. Drivers nationwide need access for a win for consumers and a win for farmers. Passage of year-round E15 is an easy policy fix that decreases U.S. reliance on foreign energy. The chart below shows that passage of E15 will shrink the corn demand gap until farmers are able to access low carbon ethanol markets, without passage, the current corn carryout continues to increase, further decreasing corn prices and hurting Iowa farmers. The Long-Term Vision: Low-Carbon Innovation While E15 is a vital first step, it is only the beginning. To ensure long-term profitability, we must deploy the technology to unlock the potential of low-carbon ethanol—specifically through carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) pipelines. This infrastructure is the ‘missing link’ that allows us to capture emissions at the source, drastically lowering the carbon intensity of our fuel and providing the verifiable data required to participate in high-value global markets such as sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and marine fuel. Support Iowa Corn Farmers. Support Low-Carbon Ethanol. To turn our backs on these new markets is to accept a future of managed decline. If we fail to innovate, we aren’t just failing our corn growers—we are failing Iowa. Without the immediate adoption of nationwide E15 to stabilize domestic demand, and the critical infrastructure of a CCS pipeline to unlock global low-carbon markets, Iowa’s economic engine will stall. When our farms struggle, our energy independence weakens, fuel prices rise for every family, and we hand the lead in the global green energy race to our competitors. We have the resources, technology and soil to power the world with ethanol. To let this opportunity slip away is a risk our nation cannot afford. It’s time to authorize nationwide E15 and secure Iowa’s position as the global leader in corn and ethanol production. LEARN MORE: iowacorn.org
